Sicily's progressive coalition launches program talks ahead of regional election

A meeting of the Sicilian progressive coalition, known as the "Campo largo," was held in Palermo to begin drafting a shared program before selecting a candidate for the upcoming regional election. Representatives from the Democratic Party, Five Star Movement, Green Alliance, Left, Italia Viva‑Casa Riformista, Controcorrente, +Europa, PSI, Progetto Civico, Spazio Civico, Sinistra Futura and other progressive forces attended. The group agreed to a listening phase across the island, holding events in municipalities and engaging citizens, trade unions, producers, associations and youth movements.

Key priorities outlined include legality and social justice, revitalising public health, managing water as a public good, waste‑reduction reforms, ecological transition, renewable energy development, youth policies, and increased investment in education. Controcorrente leader Ismaele La Vardera emphasized he will not trade a candidacy for other positions, while the name of former anti‑mafia commission chair Antonello Cracolici was mentioned as a possible contender.

The coalition stresses maintaining unity to offer voters a clear alternative to the centre‑right, while keeping open the option of a primary‑based candidate selection.
