Sidya Touré, former Guinean Prime Minister, dies in France

Sidya Touré, the former Prime Minister of Guinea and leader of the Union des forces républicaines (UFR), passed away in Paris on September 25, 2026, at the age of 81.

Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah led a government delegation to visit the deceased's family to offer condolences on behalf of President Mamadi Doumbouya. During the visit, Bah honored Touré’s political career, noting his tenure as Prime Minister from 1996 to 1999 and his long-standing political engagement.

While Guinean authorities expressed a desire for Touré to be buried in his home country, the family has reportedly chosen Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, for the funeral services. This decision is attributed to the lack of a family home in Conakry, as the former family residence was reportedly reclaimed by the current government. The funeral costs are expected to be covered by Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, who had previously hosted Touré during his exile.
