Siegwerk and Lego implement renewable energy strategies to cut emissions

Siegwerk has updated its sustainability agenda, part of its HorizonNOW 2030 plan, aiming to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60% by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. The company reported achieving 100% global renewable electricity coverage in 2023 and intends to maintain this through on-site solar installations in India, Argentina, Mexico, and Thailand, as well as green electricity tariffs and energy attribute certificates.

To support these objectives, Siegwerk has established a ‘green fund’ for carbon-reduction investments. The company plans to expand both on-site and off-site renewable generation where feasible to reduce reliance on short-term market mechanisms.

The Lego Group is also implementing strategies to lower its operational emissions by increasing its reliance on renewable energy. The company is utilizing renewable energy for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning at its new factory in Vietnam and has transitioned to a renewable-powered district heating network at its headquarters in Billund, Denmark.

Lego is expanding its solar capacity through several projects, including its largest solar project to date at its Danish headquarters and a solar park in Virginia, USA. In Vietnam, the company has installed over 12,400 rooftop solar panels to support its manufacturing site.
