Siemens and Galp to digitalize renewable hydrogen plant in Portugal

Siemens and Portugal-based Galp Energia are collaborating to digitalize the GalpH2Park in Sines, Portugal. The 100 MW facility is expected to become one of Europe’s largest renewable hydrogen plants when it begins operations at the end of the year.

Siemens is deploying its Hydrogen Performance Suite (HPS) to optimize production. This includes a physics-based predictive digital twin that integrates live plant data with external sources like energy markets and grid operators. The technology is designed to enable real-time optimization and data-driven decision-making.

The project aims to produce up to 15,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually, which could reduce CO2 emissions by 110,000 tons per year. Siemens estimates that the digital suite can deliver energy savings of up to 15 percent, enhancing the plant's cost competitiveness and sustainability.
