Siemens Healthineers unveils Accela radiotherapy platform

Siemens Healthineers has unveiled Accela, a new radiotherapy platform designed to increase the speed and efficiency of cancer treatments. Unveiled at the ASTRO annual meeting, the system utilizes NeoArc dynamic modulated arc therapy (DMAT) technology to optimize both dose precision and delivery speed.

Key technical features include a high-speed gantry capable of rotating at 2.5 revolutions per minute, dose rates reaching 40 Gy per minute, and AI-supported planning algorithms. The platform is capable of delivering multi-site stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) in as little as 60 seconds and can support single-breath-hold treatments. These advancements aim to reduce the time patients spend on the treatment table and help clinical teams manage increasing workloads and complex cases.

While the technology represents a significant development in radiation oncology, Accela is currently undergoing the 510(k) regulatory process in the United States and is not yet commercially available in any market.
