Siena activates sixth underground waste collection station

Siena has opened its sixth underground waste collection point, located in Piazza Amendola. The new station joins five others already operational in Viale Don Minzoni, Viale Fruschelli, via Baldassarre Peruzzi, Porta Tufi and Porta San Marco, bringing the total to six of the eight planned sites.

The network of underground bins is part of a city‑wide reorganisation of waste collection funded by roughly €1 million from the EU’s PNRR. The project is a collaboration between ATO Toscana Sud, the waste‑service operator Sei Toscana and the Siena municipal administration. The remaining two stations – on Viale Vittorio Emanuele and at Porta Pispini – will be activated after final technical checks.

Officials say the buried containers increase capacity, improve recycling quality and reduce the visual impact of waste bins in historic urban areas, contributing to a cleaner and more attractive city centre.
