Siena elderly residents launch digital literacy program

A new digital literacy project titled ‘ASPettAVO un clic – Insieme per imparare, comunicare e restare vicini’ has launched in Siena, Italy. Promoted by AVO Siena ODV in collaboration with ASP Città di Siena, the initiative aims to teach elderly residents in care facilities how to use digital tools effectively.

The program includes ten practical sessions lasting between 60 and 75 minutes, targeting groups of 15 to 20 participants. The curriculum covers essential smartphone functions, such as sending photos, making video calls, and conducting online searches. It also addresses digital security, helping seniors recognize suspicious messages to prevent fraud and abuse. Additionally, the sessions will explore topics like artificial intelligence.

Participants will use a ‘Digital Passport’ to track their progress and skills. The project is led by Valeria Donato, a research fellow at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, and involves facilities such as Butini Bourke and the La Mimosa day center.
