Digital literacy and fraud prevention in Siena

Overview

Efforts to protect and educate the elderly population in Siena regarding digital security have progressed through various community initiatives.

An initial project, ‘Siena Digitale Sicura’, funded by the Ministry of the Interior’s Single Justice Fund, focused on preventing and combating digital scams targeting seniors. The project concluded with a public event at Palazzo Pubblico to present results from months of awareness activities aimed at strengthening ties between law enforcement, local authorities, and vulnerable citizens.

Following these efforts, a new digital literacy program titled ‘ASPettAVO un clic – Insieme per imparare, comunicare e restare vicini’ was launched. This initiative, a collaboration between AVO Siena ODV and ASP Città di Siena, provides practical training sessions for elderly residents in care facilities. The curriculum covers smartphone functions, online searches, and artificial intelligence, while specifically addressing digital security to help seniors recognize suspicious messages and prevent fraud.
