Siena Mayor Nicoletta Fabio Issues Ordinances for August 2026 Palio

On 3 August 2026, Siena’s mayor Nicoletta Fabio signed an ordinance regulating access to the Cortile del Podestà during the preparatory trials for the Palio scheduled on 16 August 2026. The measure limits entry to a maximum of two persons per horse (plus the jockey) and one person per participating contrada, and restricts access during veterinary assessments to veterinary staff, local police, health officials and municipal personnel.

A second ordinance issued on 4 August 2026 requires public establishments along the route from the stables to the Piazza del Campo to clear their furnishings, ensuring an unobstructed path for horses and contrade members. Non‑compliance could slow movements, jeopardise the smooth conduct of the race, and impede emergency and public‑security vehicles.
