Siena municipality issues new access rules for 2026 Palio horse race

The Comune di Siena published additional regulatory ordinances on 28 July for the Palio scheduled on 16 August 2026. The full texts are available on the municipal public register.

The orders prohibit entry to the fenced area in front of the Palazzo Comunale on 13 August, except for captains, trustees, Barbareschi and service staff. A limited number of permits may be granted to photographers and journalists. Unauthorized persons are barred from walking or lingering on the race track, near the Verrocchio, the stage of the Comparse, the San Martino mattresses area, under the stands, inside the Fonte Gaia enclosure and the Casato mouth during horse trials and the race itself, after the local police and law‑enforcement have cleared the area.

Violations during trials carry a €100 fine; breaches during the race carry a €500 fine, with penalties for track‑crossing during tuff watering ranging from €25 to €500. Immediate removal is mandated. Additional provisions regulate access to the Judges’ stand, commercial activities and the presence of pets.
