Siena Palio 2026: 1,300 horses cleared for August races

The municipal Technical Commission, together with the Veterinary Commission of Siena, approved 1,300 horses for the Palio scheduled on 16 August 2026. Inspections for admission to the regulated trials and the Tratta will be held on Thursday 6 August, Friday 7 August and Saturday 8 August at the Ceppo veterinary clinic in Monteresi.

The decision was announced after a meeting on 30 July in Palazzo Pubblico, attended by Mayor Nicoletta Fabio, Technical Commission president Carlo Alberto Minniti, the municipal veterinarian, and the ten Captains of the Contrade who will take part in the race. The published list includes the owners’ names for each horse.

The Palio, a historic horse‑race tradition of Siena, will feature the newly admitted horses in the upcoming August festivities.
