Sierra Leone advances reconciliation and development initiatives

Sierra Leone is undergoing several significant political and economic developments. President Julius Maada Bio has facilitated the return of former President Ernest Bai Koroma to the country after more than two years abroad. This move, supported by ECOWAS and regional leaders from Nigeria, has been praised by Ambassador Michele Maria Valenti as a vital step toward national reconciliation and political stability.

On the economic front, President Bio reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s strategic partnership with the World Bank Group during a meeting with Regional Vice President Ousmane Diagana. The discussions focused on expanding energy access, human capital, and infrastructure development. Additionally, a new homegrown fintech initiative, Flot, has launched a Visa-partnered card to facilitate cashless international travel and reduce the reliance on physical foreign exchange.

In social advocacy, First Lady Fatima Maada Bio has returned to the country following the successful adoption of a United Nations resolution aimed at strengthening protections and opportunities for women and girls globally.
