Sierra Leone and ECA partner to integrate health financing into economic planning

The Sierra Leone Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) have agreed to integrate health financing into the nation’s national economic planning.

During a high-level meeting in Freetown, officials discussed sustainable health financing, resource mobilization, and improved data systems. The initiative aims to reposition health from a social expenditure to a strategic economic investment that supports productivity, employment, and sustainable development. The goal is to ensure health outcomes are incorporated into national macroeconomic frameworks and public investment decisions through stronger coordination between planning, finance, and health ministries.
