Sierra Norte Wildfire Recovery Efforts in Guadalajara Province, Spain
Local officials in the Sierra Norte of Guadalajara Province met in Cogolludo to request faster, less bureaucratic aid after the La Mierla wildfire damaged forests, pastures, hunting grounds and tourism infrastructure. They warned that the coto de caza, which generates roughly 30 % of municipal revenue, and forest roads were heavily affected, and they called for a detailed technical assessment to guide recovery.
Cruz Roja Guadalajara responded by opening three temporary shelters in Humanes, Molina de Aragón and the institute Brianda de Mendoza, providing accommodation, food, basic supplies, health care and psychosocial support to 322 evacuees – 193 in Humanes from 20 localities and 129 in Molina de Aragón – over ten days between 16 July and 23 July. More than 80 volunteers and technicians, including 47 minors and 13 camp monitors, helped run the operation, and a fourth shelter was prepared but never needed.
