In late July 2026, Spanish authorities were dealing with several large wildfires across the country. After the La Mierla blaze devastated forests, pastures and tourism infrastructure in the Sierra Norte of Guadalajara Province, local officials pressed for quicker, less‑bureaucratic aid while the Red Cross opened temporary shelters for hundreds of evacuees and provided food, medical care and psychosocial support.

Just two days later, a separate fire raging through the Sierra del Espadán in Castellón Province forced the evacuation of roughly 7,000 residents from multiple villages.
