Siófok fatal accident investigation reveals high-speed collision

An animation created by judicial expert Sándor Boncsér has reconstructed the fatal accident that occurred on August 11 in Siófok, Hungary. The incident involved a dark grey Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 striking and killing a cyclist on Batthyány Street.

Investigations revealed that the driver, an 18-year-old who had obtained a license only two months prior, was traveling at approximately 100 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. The vehicle reportedly struck a light pole during the incident. The reconstruction, based on surveillance footage, shows the vehicle overtaking another car before the collision near a pedestrian crossing.

The Somogy County Police Headquarters has confirmed the authenticity of the video evidence. In response to the tragedy, Minister of Transport and Investment Dávid Vitézy stated that the event highlights the need to review current legislation, noting that extreme speeding is not currently classified as a crime in itself.
