Rai considers replacing ‘Report’ host Sigfrido Ranucci

Rai is considering replacing Sigfrido Ranucci as the host of the investigative program ‘Report’. The decision follows an ethics committee report delivered to CEO Giampaolo Rossi, prompted by concerns regarding Ranucci’s relationship with Valter Lavitola. Lavitola recently confessed to being the mastermind behind an attack on Ranucci’s home last October.

Rai management is exploring internal candidates to succeed Ranucci, including Riccardo Iacona, Francesca Fagnani, Giorgio Mottola, and Federico Ruffo. While Ranucci is not facing suspension and retains his role as deputy director, the company seeks a leadership change to protect the program’s reputation and autonomy.

The situation has escalated into a political dispute. Fratelli d'Italia (FdI) has written to the European Commission, alleging that ‘Report’ has become biased under Ranucci, claiming that 43.5% of investigations since the Meloni government took office have targeted the party and its leader. Conversely, the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) has defended the program, asserting that it investigates all political sides.
