Sigfrido Ranucci denied reinstatement to host Report by Rome court
The Rome Labor Court has rejected an urgent appeal by journalist Sigfrido Ranucci seeking reinstatement as the host of the investigative program ‘Report’ following his removal by Rai in August. Judge Donatella Casari ruled that Rai’s decision to reorganize the editorial staff and hosting duties was a legitimate organizational measure intended to resolve internal tensions within the newsroom.
While the court acknowledged that media pressure and political statements regarding the removal existed, it found insufficient evidence of a decisive interference that would invalidate the company's prerogative to manage its programming. Ranucci has criticized the decision, claiming the removal was part of a coordinated effort to ‘erase the history of Report’ through manufactured media narratives and false information.
The Report editorial team issued a statement clarifying that they never lost confidence in Ranucci nor requested his removal, asserting that the decision was made solely by the company. They emphasized that the program remains independent of political influence. The program is set to continue under the leadership of Daniele Piervincenzi and Claudia Di Pasquale.
