Sigfrido Ranucci legal battle over Report hosting continues

The legal battle over Sigfrido Ranucci’s removal from the host position of the investigative program ‘Report’ continues at the Rome Labor Court. Judge Donatella Casari has reserved her decision on Ranucci’s urgent appeal for reinstatement, with a ruling expected in early October.

Lorenzo Pontecorvo, President of the Rome Court, has defended the assignment of the case to Judge Casari, stating it followed standard automatic procedures and rejecting claims of a lack of transparency or bias.

The situation has caused significant internal tension within the ‘Report’ newsroom. Reports have surfaced suggesting a deep rift, with some veteran journalists and authors allegedly prepared to resign if Ranucci is reinstated, citing concerns of ‘incompatibility.’ However, the program’s editorial committee has disputed these claims, stating that the reports of a mass staff revolt are inaccurate and only represent a small minority of the 43 employees.

Ranucci maintains that his removal by Rai was a political decision linked to previous legal controversies. Meanwhile, Rai has moved forward with new hosts, Daniele Piervincenzi and Claudia Di Pasquale, to lead the program.
