Sigfrido Ranucci faces scrutiny over ‘Report’ hosting future

Sigfrido Ranucci, host of the investigative program ‘Report’, is facing intense political and institutional pressure following an investigation into an explosive device attack at his home. The Rai Ethics Committee has delivered its report to CEO Giampaolo Rossi, who will decide on Ranucci’s future. While the document is confidential and does not trigger an automatic replacement, Rai leadership has expressed concern over reputational damage and potential impacts on advertising revenue.

Political figures are deeply divided. Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has called for Ranucci to step down, criticizing his associations. Conversely, Democratic Party MEP Sandro Ruotolo has appealed to the European Commission, arguing that political pressure on Ranucci threatens journalistic independence and violates the European Media Freedom Act. Ranucci’s legal counsel, Roberto De Vita, has denounced the calls for replacement as a ‘moral paradox’ that targets a victim of an attack to serve political agendas.

Amidst the controversy, Ranucci is reportedly continuing to work on the new cycle of the program. Potential successors being discussed within Rai include Peter Gomez and Nerazzini, though no official decision has been made.
