Sikh activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun receives RCMP threat warning

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a dual Canadian-U.S. citizen and lawyer with Sikhs for Justice, reports receiving a new ‘duty to warn’ notification from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) regarding a credible and imminent threat to his life. Pannun stated that the RCMP informed him of the threat because of his Canadian citizenship, noting that the warning mirrors a similar notification he received from the FBI earlier this month.

Pannun alleges these threats are evidence of ongoing transnational repression by India against the pro-Khalistan movement. He claims that over 100 Canadians are included on a ‘kill list’ under surveillance by Indian intelligence. He further noted that several other pro-Khalistan activists have recently received similar warnings from Canadian law enforcement.

This development follows a previous assassination plot involving Pannun. According to U.S. Justice Department allegations, a senior Indian intelligence officer attempted to recruit Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, to carry out the killing. Gupta pleaded guilty in February to charges including murder-for-hire and conspiracy.
