Silao and Toluca launch new emotional health initiatives

Municipalities in Mexico are implementing new initiatives to address emotional health and crisis intervention. In Silao, Mayor Melanie Murillo announced the opening of the first ‘Clínica de las Emociones’ in Guanajuato. The center aims to provide professional support for daily emotional challenges and mental health, specifically addressing the impact of recent suicides in the municipality.

In Toluca, the local government has launched the ‘Patrulla de Salud Emocional’ (Emotional Health Patrol). This specialized unit, integrated by seven certified officers trained in psychological first aid, is designed to respond to emotional crises and potential suicidal behaviors via 911 calls. During its first week of operation, the patrol attended to 12 individuals in emotional crisis, with protocols in place to provide immediate intervention and subsequent referrals to specialized psychological services.
