Silchar-Guwahati Express engine derails in Assam

The front trolley of a locomotive hauling the 15616 Silchar-Guwahati Express derailed on Thursday morning in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of Assam. The incident occurred around 8:50 am between the Badarpur and Sukritipur stations.

No casualties or injuries have been reported, and all passengers are safe. The rear portion of the train, including all passenger coaches, was pushed back to Badarpur.

The derailment has caused significant disruptions to railway services in the region, affecting the crucial corridor connecting the Barak Valley to the rest of the state. The Guwahati-Silchar Express has been cancelled, and several other services, including the Sealdah-Silchar Express and Agartala-Sealdah Express, have been regulated or detained at various locations.

Northeast Frontier Railway officials have initiated restoration work to clear the section and resume normal operations.
