Silver prices face volatility amid supply deficits and AI demand

Silver prices have recently experienced volatility, trading near the $68 per ounce mark as markets react to economic indicators. While the metal has seen a recent rally, it faces scrutiny due to upcoming U.S. inflation data and speeches from Federal Reserve officials, which influence Treasury yields and interest rate expectations.

Despite short-term price fluctuations and profit-taking, the silver market is facing a significant structural deficit. The Silver Institute estimates a market shortfall that could reach nearly 50 million ounces this year, marking a fifth consecutive annual deficit.

Industrial demand is emerging as a primary driver for long-term consumption. Beyond traditional use in photovoltaics, silver demand is being bolstered by the growth of artificial intelligence, data centers, electric vehicles, and broader electrification trends. Some analysts remain optimistic about long-term price targets, citing the potential for increased institutional interest if interest rates remain stable.
