Simmerdeis Festival Relocates to Indoor Venues in Drachten Amid Heatwave

The Simmerdeis cultural festival, normally held across outdoor sites in Drachten, has moved most daytime programs to indoor locations because of an expected heat spike. Venues such as Schouwburg De Lawei, De Sluisfabriek, Poppodium Iduna, the Museum Dr8888 and the local library are being converted into a single, climate‑controlled festival space.

Evening performances will still take place outdoors once temperatures drop, but a handful of acts designed specifically for open‑air stages have been cancelled for safety reasons. Organisers emphasise that the festival will continue as planned, with the indoor shift aimed at keeping audiences and performers comfortable.

The adjustments affect both local talent and visiting artists, with the indoor venues now hosting the traditional Sunday program that was originally slated for multiple city‑center stages.
