Simon Quilty analyzes global meat market trends in Uruguay
During the 60th anniversary of Fucrea, Australian meat market specialist Simon Quilty presented projections regarding global meat supply and market reconfiguration through 2028. Quilty identified several key factors influencing the industry, including the conflict in the Middle East, which impacted shipments from both Australia and Uruguay, and Chinese trade safeguards.
Quilty highlighted Uruguay’s strategic advantages in the face of sanitary and tariff barriers faced by competitors. He also addressed recent developments in the United States, specifically regarding the removal of tariffs on ground beef, which created a 90-day window for 300,000 tons of out-of-quota meat to enter the market.
As the director of MLX Pty Limited, Quilty brings over 30 years of experience working with producers and exporters across Australia, the United States, and China. His visit to Uruguay included technical conferences and field days aimed at discussing trends and opportunities in the meat market.
