Simona Halep seeks privacy following tennis retirement

Former world number one tennis player Simona Halep has expressed a desire to step away from the public eye following her retirement from professional tennis on February 4, 2025. In a recent interview, Halep stated that she wishes to reclaim her independence and live a life free from constant media scrutiny and judgment.

Halep noted that after years of being a public figure, she now wants to focus on her personal life and building a family with her partner, entrepreneur Dorin Mateiu. She remarked, “For many years I belonged to everyone, and now the time has come to belong to myself.”

Her professional career faced significant disruption following the 2022 US Open due to a positive test for roxadustat, which she maintained was caused by a contaminated supplement. Although a reduction in her suspension by the Court of Arbitration for Sport allowed her to return to competition, she ultimately decided to retire due to physical challenges and difficulty returning to her previous competitive level.
