Simplon bicycle manufacturer files for insolvency in Austria
Bicycle manufacturer Simplon, operating as 2Rad Produktions GmbH, has filed for insolvency again at the Feldkirch Regional Court. This follows the failure of a restructuring plan implemented after a previous insolvency in 2024.
The company, based in Hard, Vorarlberg, reports liabilities totaling 33.4 million euros. According to the Credit Protection Association of 1870 (KSV1870), 28.3 million euros of this debt stems from the previous restructuring process, with a single major creditor holding approximately 26 million euros of that amount. The insolvency affects 54 employees and roughly 150 creditors.
The company attributed the failure to issues encountered during the takeover of the previous debtor. Specifically, management stated that communication from the former owners was not entirely transparent or correct. Furthermore, inherited stock levels were found to be insufficient and incomplete, preventing the timely processing of existing orders due to missing parts. This disrupted delivery capabilities and led to a loss of follow-up orders, ultimately straining liquidity. The company intends to propose a new restructuring plan with a 20 percent repayment quota to be paid within two years.
