Singapore AI job market shifts toward user roles over developers
Singapore is experiencing a significant shift in its artificial intelligence job market, with AI-user roles now outnumbering AI developers by a ratio of four to one. According to data from PwC’s 2026 Global AI Jobs Barometer, approximately 82% of AI-related job postings in the country are for users rather than developers. This trend is driven by demand in operations, finance, marketing, and support sectors, where AI fluency is becoming a baseline requirement.
In response to these evolving needs, national initiatives are underway to build practical AI capabilities. The ISCA AI Fluency Programme has seen over 15,000 accountants and finance professionals enroll within its first two months. The program aims to train 60,000 professionals over the next three years, focusing on applying AI to roles such as audit, tax, and financial analysis.
Economic data indicates that AI-related postings command a wage premium across all surveyed sectors, with the highest increases seen in the Government and Public Sector. While companies initially budgeted for AI as an engineering requirement, the market has shifted toward integrating AI into non-technical and hybrid positions.
