Singapore and Vietnam support Philippines' ASEAN climate agenda

Singapore and Vietnam have expressed support for sustaining the Philippines’ climate agenda beyond its 2026 ASEAN chairmanship. Both nations are advocating for enhanced regional cooperation regarding climate resilience, disaster preparedness, energy security, and climate financing.

Speaking at a climate security forum in Manila, Singapore Ambassador Constance See Sin Yuan noted that Singapore intends to build upon the initiatives advanced during the Philippines’ chairmanship when Singapore assumes the ASEAN chair next year. Singapore is also preparing a three-year initiative titled ‘Climate Adaptation and Resilience for ASEAN’s Transformation’ (CARAT) to assist member states in strengthening adaptation policies and implementing national plans.

Vietnam Ambassador Lai Thai Binh emphasized the opportunity provided by the Philippines’ upcoming chairmanship to elevate climate security on the regional agenda. Binh urged ASEAN members to strengthen solidarity and coordination on biodiversity protection, disaster risk reduction, and collective resilience.
