Singapore announces 70,000 SGD support package per child
Singapore has announced the SG Child Support Package to combat a significant demographic decline. Following a drop in the total fertility rate to a record low of 0.87 in 2025, the government is increasing financial assistance for families.
Under the new system, each child is expected to receive approximately 70,000 Singapore dollars in total support by age 17. This includes a 10,000 Singapore dollar “Baby Gift” for children born on or after April 1, 2027, and 5,000 Singapore dollars in MediSave support. Additionally, families will receive annual Child Credits of 2,000 Singapore dollars from ages 1 to 16, totaling 32,000 Singapore dollars.
To support higher education, 10,000 Singapore dollars will be transferred to a Post-Secondary Education Account when the child turns 17. Other provisions include a 5,000 Singapore dollar Child Development Account grant and potential government matching contributions. The policy aims to provide equal support regardless of birth order.
