Singapore exports surge 46.2% driven by AI electronics demand

Singapore’s key exports surged 46.2% in August, significantly exceeding economist forecasts. This growth was primarily fueled by a massive 131.8% increase in electronics exports, driven by robust demand for artificial intelligence technologies. Key contributors included integrated circuits, disk media products, and personal computers.

Complementing this, Citi reported a 40% year-on-year increase in global cross-border payment flows for the first half of 2026. Technology-related payments led this growth, with Asia seeing a 60% increase. Notably, cross-border flows between Taiwan and Singapore grew by 90%, while US-to-Taiwan flows rose by 36%. These shifts reflect changing global trade routes and evolving market corridors.
