Singapore GrabFood rider receives N95 masks from customer during haze

A GrabFood delivery rider in Singapore expressed being “really touched” after a customer’s young son provided him with a pack of N95 masks during a period of poor air quality. The encounter occurred at a condominium in the Bukit Batok area, where the child reportedly told the rider, “Wear it now!” to protect him from the hazy conditions.

The rider, identified as Shawn, shared the experience on TikTok, noting that the gesture was particularly meaningful as he had been considering purchasing masks himself. He described the experience of delivering food during the haze as “brutal,” citing common health issues for outdoor workers such as sore throats and stinging eyes.

Recent data from the National Environment Agency (NEA) indicated that Singapore experienced unhealthy air quality in mid-October, with 24-hour PSI readings reaching between 130 and 199. While delivery platforms and associations provide some resources, the rider emphasized that direct acts of kindness from customers provide significant support to those working on the road.
