Singapore haze and mask distribution
Overview
During a period of poor air quality in mid-October, Singapore experienced unhealthy air pollution with 24-hour PSI readings reaching between 130 and 199. The haze impacted outdoor workers, including food delivery riders who reported health issues such as sore throats and stinging eyes.
In response to the spike in pollution, the government launched a second round of free N95-equivalent mask distribution. Eligibility for these masks was expanded to include seniors aged 60 and above, as well as CHAS cardholders, ComCare recipients, pregnant women, children, and individuals with chronic respiratory or heart conditions. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu stated that while some retail shortages occurred due to demand, government and retailer stockpiles remained sufficient.
