Singapore half-marathon shortened to 10km due to haze
Organisers of the inaugural Kiprun Singapore race, presented by Decathlon Singapore and managed by MetaSport, shortened the headline half-marathon from 21.1km to 10km on September 27 due to worsening haze.
The decision was made following an air quality review at 2am, after the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) exceeded predetermined safety thresholds. In central Singapore, the PSI was recorded at 126, while readings in the east and west were 109 and 104, respectively. A PSI between 101 and 200 is classified as unhealthy.
In addition to the distance reduction, all race categories were declared non-competitive, meaning no official rankings or results would be issued, and the planned awards ceremony was cancelled. The 10km, 5km, and 670m Kids Dash categories maintained their original distances and start times. MetaSport stated the modifications were intended to protect participant health and safety by reducing prolonged physical exertion.
