Singapore raises 2026 GDP growth forecast to 4.5%-5.5% on AI demand

Singapore has significantly upgraded its 2026 economic growth forecast to a range of 4.5% to 5.5%, up from the previous 2.0% to 4.0% projection. This revision follows a strong performance in the first half of 2026, where GDP grew by 6.1% year-on-year.

Growth in the second quarter of 2026 reached 5.9%, driven largely by the global artificial intelligence investment boom. This technological surge has particularly benefited the manufacturing sector, with output increasing by 12.5% due to high demand in electronics and precision engineering. Additionally, Enterprise Singapore raised its non-oil domestic export (NODX) forecast to 14%–16%, up from the earlier 3%–5% estimate.

While the economy has benefited from AI-related demand, officials noted that sectors directly impacted by Middle East supply chain disruptions remain under pressure. However, the overall economic impact of the Middle East conflict has been less severe than initially anticipated. Amidst these developments, the Monetary Authority of Singapore unexpectedly tightened monetary policy in late July to address persistent inflationary risks.
