Singapore economic growth forecast upgrades

Overview

Singapore has significantly upgraded its 2026 economic growth forecast to a range of 4.5% to 5.5%, up from previous projections of 2.0% to 4.0%. This upward revision follows strong performance in the first half of 2026, with year-on-year GDP growth reaching 6.1%.

The expansion is largely attributed to a global artificial intelligence investment boom, which has driven high demand for electronics, precision engineering, and technology-related hardware. Manufacturing output specifically increased by 12.5% in the second quarter. Other contributing sectors include wholesale trade, finance, and insurance.

In July, non-oil domestic exports (NODX) rose 24.2% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth exceeding 20%. This surge was primarily driven by artificial intelligence-related electronics, with electronics exports jumping 112%. Specific high-growth categories included disk media products (339.1%), PCs (120.8%), and integrated circuits (84.5%).

While growth was observed in nine of Singapore’s top ten export markets—led by the United States (62.8%), South Korea (53.3%), China (37.6%), and Taiwan (32.4%)—other areas faced declines. Non-electronics shipments fell by 2.3%, with significant drops in pharmaceuticals (-56.6%) and petrochemicals (-22.5%). Additionally, exports to the European Union 27 fell by 35.5%.

While the technological surge has bolstered the economy, officials noted that sectors affected by Middle East supply chain disruptions remain under pressure, though the overall impact of the conflict has been less severe than anticipated. In response to persistent inflationary risks, the Monetary Authority of Singapore tightened monetary policy in late July.
