Singapore Strait collision involves bulk carrier and Chinese fishing vessel

A Panama-flagged bulk carrier, the First Margaux, collided with a Chinese-registered fishing vessel, the Lu Qing Yuan Yu 108, in the Singapore Strait on September 17. Video footage of the incident shows the smaller fishing boat tilting sharply and taking on water following the impact, though the vessel remained afloat and stable.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is investigating the collision. While no injuries were reported on either vessel, the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed that 40 Filipino seafarers on the First Margaux are safe. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac stated that the agency has identified the crew members and is coordinating with the Philippine Embassy in Singapore and the shipowner to arrange their repatriation.

Footage from the fishing vessel captured the moment of impact, with crew members shouting in Mandarin as the larger ship struck the starboard side of the boat. Debris was observed floating in the sea following the accident.
