Singapore travelers drive surge in premium and fitness-based travel
Singaporean travelers are increasingly opting for premium travel experiences. Data from Trip.com indicates that searches for first and business class outbound flights from Singapore grew by 137% year-on-year in the first half of 2026. Additionally, searches for five-star hotels rose by 42% during the same period, with significant demand for longhaul destinations such as the US, UK, Japan, China, and South Korea.
This demographic shift is largely driven by Millennials and Gen X travelers, specifically those aged 35 to 49. These premium travelers tend to stay abroad longer than average, with trips often lasting between 14 and 20 days. There is also a notable rise in demand for customized tour offerings, which saw a 650% year-on-year increase.
Parallel to this luxury trend, a new travel category known as “race-cation” is emerging. Fitness enthusiasts are traveling internationally to participate in endurance events like HYROX. This trend has prompted businesses to create specialized products, such as AirAsia’s partnership as an official regional airline for HYROX, offering flight discounts to participants across Asia-Pacific markets.
