Bolu municipal corruption probe leads to five arrests
In Bolu, Turkey, five individuals have been arrested following an investigation into embezzlement and tender fraud involving a municipal cooperative and its affiliated company. The investigation, coordinated by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, centers on allegations of a 24 million lira public loss.
A forensic report revealed that 21 mushroom cultivation tents, originally built in 2021, were falsely presented as new during a 2023 tender. Boltartek, a company wholly owned by the Bolu Municipality, reportedly purchased the second-hand tent systems from the cooperative for 34.02 million lira, despite their market value being approximately 10.1 million lira.
Among those arrested are Bahadır Acar, General Manager of Boltartek, and Cevat Çatladı, Chairman of the S. S. Köroğlu Organic and Local Products Production and Marketing Cooperative. Other suspects were released under judicial control.
Separately, a large-scale investigation into capital market transactions in Istanbul has led to 65 arrests. This probe involves allegations of money laundering and terrorism financing, targeting various investment funds and holding companies. Authorities have seized assets including private jets, luxury yachts, and villas valued at billions of lira, while investigating significant fund outflows and cryptocurrency transfers.
