Sinj Mayor Miro Bulj defends use of city funds for Lika protest transport

Sinj Mayor Miro Bulj has sparked a political dispute after deciding to use city funds to provide free bus transportation for citizens attending the ‘Walk for Lika, Walk for Croatia’ protest in Zagreb on September 5. The protest focuses on the issue of hazardous waste disposal and environmental protection in the Lika region.

Igor Vidalina, president of the Sinj HDZ, criticized the move, arguing that public funds should not be used to finance political protests and questioning the legality of the expenditure. The HDZ council in Sinj further accused Bulj of prioritizing national political visibility over local issues such as kindergarten capacity, road infrastructure, and the Mojanka environmental crisis.

Bulj defended his decision, stating that the protection of water, land, and public health should transcend party lines. He dismissed accusations that the protest is a left-wing initiative, asserting that anyone—regardless of political affiliation—is welcome to join the fight against environmental degradation in Lika. He accused his critics of being more concerned with party loyalty than the safety of the country.
