Political disputes in Sinj, Croatia

Political opposition in Sinj has targeted Mayor Miro Bulj for failing to deliver on campaign promises during his six-year term. Initial criticisms focused on uncompleted infrastructure projects, such as the Mojanka sanitation and the Ćosin stream solution, alongside rising costs at the local waste management company.

Subsequent criticism from the HDZ councilors' club expanded these grievances, alleging that Bulj prioritizes his national parliamentary mandate over municipal needs. The councilors cited stagnation in kindergarten capacity, unresolved waste management and odor issues in Turjačani and Brnažani, and delays in the Sinj bypass and digital infrastructure projects.

Conflict has intensified regarding the use of municipal funds to transport citizens to political demonstrations. Igor Vidalina, president of the Sinj HDZ, criticized the mayor’s decision to organize a free bus for the ‘Walk for Lika, Walk for Croatia’ protest in Zagreb, which addresses hazardous waste disposal in the Lika region. Vidalina questioned the legality and transparency of the expenditure, suggesting the mayor should personally fund transport for political matters.

Mayor Bulj defended the move, accusing opponents of prioritizing party interests over public health. He argued that the issue of toxic waste and clean water in Lika is a national concern that transcends political divides, stating he invited citizens of all political leanings to join the movement.
