Sint-Truiden Mayor calls for fatbike sales ban

The Mayor of Sint-Truiden, Ludwig Vandenhove, is calling for stricter regulations or a total ban on the sale of fatbikes following increased safety concerns. Local police in the Sint-Truiden-Gingelom-Nieuwerkerken area have already seized seven fatbikes this year due to reckless and dangerous riding behavior.

Vandenhove argues that while the commercial sector profits from these sales, the societal costs of unsafe use fall upon the community and taxpayers. He has urged the federal government to implement better regulations and has also contacted local schools, requesting that they do not allow these bikes to be parked on school property to prioritize traffic safety.
