Siracusa commemorates 73rd anniversary of Madonna delle Lacrime

The city of Siracusa is preparing for the 73rd anniversary of the Lacrimazione (Weeping) of the Madonna delle Lacrime. The commemorations include a variety of religious and community events designed to foster faith and social connection.

Key activities include the 'Benedizione del Cotone' (Blessing of the Cotton), presided over by Archbishop Francesco Lomanto, which serves as a symbolic gesture of consolation for those facing illness, loneliness, and hardship. The event was broadcast nationally on Canale 5 and TV2000.

Upcoming scheduled events include a bicycle pilgrimage through the sites of the Lacrimazione on August 26, a musical tribute by the 'Città di Siracusa' band on August 27, and a diocesan pilgrimage for youth on August 28 and 29. The celebrations involve various groups, including the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, and aim to unite the local community through shared memory and devotion.
