Siracusa new hospital project advances with local business meeting

Plans for a new hospital in Siracusa are advancing as project leaders meet with local economic operators to discuss the infrastructure's impact on the region. Extraordinary commissioner Guido Monteforte and national parliamentarian Luca Cannata are presenting the project to local businesses to encourage participation in the upcoming development phases.

The project involves a total investment exceeding 372 million euros, with approximately 95% of the funding provided by the Italian state and the remaining 5% by the Sicilian Region. The definitive project, valued at roughly 372 million euros, has been declared of public utility.

Several administrative and technical steps remain before construction begins, including the registration of the financing decree by the Court of Auditors, land expropriations for approximately 17 hectares, war-related land remediation, and archaeological verifications. If these processes proceed as planned, Invitalia aims to publish the tender by November 2026. Construction is projected to start between late 2026 and early 2027, with the facility expected to open between 2030 and 2031.
