Iran coastal regions hit by projectiles amid Strait of Hormuz escalation
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated following reports of projectile strikes in southern Iran, specifically in the Sirik, Minab, and Qeshm Island areas. Local authorities in Hormozgan indicated that several explosions appeared to originate from the sea. Simultaneously, reports emerged of explosions near King Fahd Air Base and in Taif, Saudi Arabia.
The heightened conflict around the Strait of Hormuz has directly impacted global energy markets, pushing Brent crude oil prices above $100 per barrel. Amidst the volatility, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for attacking two US vessels and eight oil tankers in the Persian Gulf.
Diplomatic efforts are underway, with Iran and several Gulf states, including Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, scheduled to meet in Oman to discuss shipping mechanisms and maritime security. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that the conflict with Iran is expected to conclude immediately following the US midterm elections, accusing Tehran of attempting to influence the election outcome.
In response to the ongoing hostilities, the Pentagon is reportedly evaluating options to strike Iran’s deep underground nuclear facilities, as construction activity at suspected sites like Pickaxe Mountain continues to accelerate.
