Sisak commemorates 35 years of the 120th Croatian Army Brigade

The city of Sisak is marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment and combat operations of the 120th Croatian Army Brigade, ‘Ban Toma Bakač’. Commemorative activities include lighting candles at monuments in Dr. Franjo Tuđman Park and laying wreaths at the Viktorovac City Cemetery to honor fallen defenders.

Mihael Jurić, representing the Sisak-Moslavina County, emphasized the importance of the brigade's sacrifice in defending the city during the Homeland War. Established on September 1, 1991, under the command of Brigadier General Vlado Hodalj, the brigade consisted of approximately 3,000 citizens from Sisak, Petrinja, and the surrounding areas. During the conflict, 27 members of the brigade lost their lives.

Additional commemorative events scheduled for the period include a series of exhibitions, a solemn academy, and the XIV. Marijan Celjak Memorial Aeroshow. The program also commemorates the liberation of the Barutana barracks on September 3, 1991, and the 35th anniversary of the death of Brigadier Marijan Celjak.
