Greece fights multiple wildfires in Attica, Evia and Salamina

On July 19‑20 2026 a series of wildfires erupted across Greece. In Korope, Attica, a fire in low‑vegetation land prompted an immediate response from the fire service: 78 firefighters, 30 ground vehicles, two aerial units (three helicopters and two fixed‑wing aircraft) and volunteer water‑tankers were deployed. A 112 alert was sent at 17:45, and the blaze was brought under control without damage to nearby homes.

A separate blaze in the Selemia area of Salamina engaged about 90 firefighters, 23 vehicles and aerial resources (two aircraft and one helicopter). Residents received 112 evacuation warnings as the fire approached scattered houses.

In Milaki, Evia, 28 firefighters, a crew of foot‑patrols and nine vehicles, supported by seven fixed‑wing aircraft, one helicopter and municipal water‑tankers, fought a forest fire threatening dwellings; a 112 warning was also issued.

In Piraeus, a residential apartment fire required 15 firefighters, five vehicles and a special ladder truck; occupants were safely evacuated and traffic was rerouted. Another fire in Neochori, South Pelion, saw 48 firefighters, 13 vehicles and three foot‑patrol teams contain the blaze.

Throughout the incidents the Unified Crisis Management Center used drones with thermal imaging for real‑time monitoring, and investigative units were assigned to determine the causes, including possible arson.
