Weather-related fatalities reported in Dominican Republic and Nicaragua

Severe weather has caused multiple fatalities in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

In the Elías Piña province of the Dominican Republic, heavy rains led to a tragedy in the community of Pinzón. Multiple reports indicate that children were swept away by strong currents in a canal or ditch. At least two children died after being carried by the water, while another minor was rescued with serious injuries, including a neck wound caused by a metal rod. Search efforts by the Civil Defense and local residents were required to recover the bodies.

In Nicaragua, a landslide in the Siuna municipality of the North Caribbean Coast region killed four members of a single family. The victims, identified as Carmen Urbina, Yureiling Eliveth Amador Urbina, and two children aged 12 and 2, were buried in their home while sleeping. Authorities stated that torrential rains saturated the soil, causing the hillside to collapse and bury the structure under mud, rocks, and trees.
