Weather-related fatalities in Dominican Republic and Nicarau

Overview

Severe weather has resulted in multiple fatalities across the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

In the Dominican Republic, heavy rains in the Elías Piña province caused strong currents in a canal or ditch to sweep away children. At least two children died, while another minor was rescued with serious injuries.

In Nicaragua, torrential rains caused a landslide in the Siuna municipality of the North Caribbean Coast region. The landslide buried a home while the occupants were sleeping, killing four members of a single family, including two children aged 12 and 2.
